Blessing of Candles and Throats this week

A popular part of our Catholic culture is the blessing of candles on the Feast of the Presentation on February 2. The blessing will take place at the end of all Masses this Tuesday.

Also popular is the blessing of people’s throats on the Feast of St. Blaise on February 3.  The congregation will be invited to come forward for a blessing of throats after all Masses on Wednesday. St Blaise is a fourth century saint who was martyred by Agricola for his steadfast faith. St. Blaise was known to have carried out miraculous healings among people and even animals. He is particularly remembered for his aid in healing people with objects caught in the throat.
