Re-consecration of Canada to Mary, Mother of the Church

On May 1st the Archbishop re-consecrated the Archdiocese of Vancouver to Mary, Mother of the Church. This was an initiative coordinated by the U.S. and Canadian Bishops during this time of pandemic. In his homily the Archbishop said:

“Looking down from the Cross, Jesus recognized the first fruits of the family which he had come to form in the world, the community of the Church to which he entrusted Mary as its mother.

Standing at the foot of the Cross, Mary dispels all our fears, and fills that scene with tenderness and hope so that her Son no longer feels alone in His tribulation and so it is with us. Our currents situation of pandemic can at times seem dark and discouraging but we are consoled by knowing that beside us at our side is Mary who dries our tears and encourages us under the mantle of her protection. As a true mother she walks at our side, she shares our struggles, and she constantly surrounds us with God’s love.”

This is the second time Archbishop Miller consecrated Canada and the Archdiocese to Our Blessed Mother, in 2017 in the 150th
anniversary of confederation the Archbishop also consecrated our nation to the maternal care of Mary.

After the consecration the Archbishop crowned image of Our Lady, Queen of the Holy Rosary that is on the side altar at the Cathedral. This is part of the traditional May devotions. May is a month traditionally dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

We entrust ourselves to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and we ask her to comfort us during this time.
